Ryan Behling

Ryan Behling has been singing since before he can remember.  He is featured on over 20 nationally distributed recordings and has thousands of live performances under his belt.  After starting in musicals and choirs in his younger years in Plainfield, IL, he attended the University of Illinoiswhere he studied Voice and Piano and left with a Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts in Music Education.  While in Champaign, he was a member, arranger and musical director of the world-renown, award winning a cappella octet, The Other Guys.  During his tenure, The Other Guys won an award for the Best Collegiate A Cappella Album in 1998 for their album “Unplugged”, went to the National Finals of the Collegiate a Cappella Competition in New York at the world famous Lincoln Center, performed at The Gotham Comedy Club, Foellinger Auditorium, sang the National Anthem for the New York Yankees, the Houston Rockets, the Phoenix Suns, and opened for “Grease” on Broadway.  Upon graduating, Ryan moved to Boston where he sang with the a cappella group Ball in the House.  Ryan and the group toured the east coast and the nation and ended up going to the National Finals of the Harmony Sweepstakes Competition in San Francisco, CA after winning the East Coast Regional Finals in Boston. But Rock and Roll was calling him home to Chicago.

Ryan would spend the next 3 years singing and playing in a few different projects in Chicago and around the Midwest.  While singing lead for the Chicago funk band, Hundo, Ryan got to sing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inCleveland, OH as well as in some of the best local music venues in the Midwest including the Double Door and Schuba’s in Chicago and The Rave in Milwaukee.  Upon Hundo’s break up, Ryan formed Starrunner, a nationally touring funk/jazz/rock band fueled by improvisation.  Ryan sang lead and played bass for the band, which in 4 years did over 500 shows in over 20 states and continues to have an online following of jam band fans.  Relentless in their touring, Starrunner was among the top five up for the “Road Warrior Award” from Jambase and were favorites of the Home Grown Music Network.  Ryan is currently involved in a recording project called RON (in which he sings, plays bass, keys, harmonica and percussion) as well as touring with AfroZep and 56 Hope Road.  Recently, they played the Fox Theater in Boulder, CO and have been causing waves in the Midwest.  Shortly after forming, AfroZep, which is all Zeppelin songs done in AfroBeat style, was named “Best Led Zeppelin Cover Band” by the Chicago Reader and were featured on WXRT.   Ryan also plays in SMASH, FivePlay and Kava.
