Dan Nicholson

Dan Nicholson is a familiar face in the Chicago music scene. He is a musical director, a sideman, a teacher, a student, a composer, and an arranger. While finishing his post graduate studies in jazz composition at DePaul University, Dan teaches at Near North Montessori, is musical director for Front of House, and is involved in numerous original jazz groups. Dan has recorded as a featured soloist with the University of South Florida Jazz Ensemble, the University of North Florida Jazz Ensemble, DePaul University Jazz Ensemble, NIA Quintet on the Blue Jazz Label, the Model Citizens, the D. Bayne Septet on Luminescents Records, the Roy Dunlap Group on the Jazz South label, and is on Greg Duncan’s new release on Origin Records.

Dan studied saxophone at the University of South Florida with Jack Wilkins and at The University of North Florida with Bunky Green where he earned a BM is Jazz Studies. He currently studies jazz composition with Tom Matta at DePaul University.
